Our chapter
Our story
Chi Beta Omega was chartered in 1987 by six Finance majors who wanted two things: a study group and a house. They got both, in that order, and for insurance purposes the house is still classified as a study group.
Today we are 214 brothers drawn from every college at Florida State — Business, Engineering, Nursing, Communication, and one extremely determined Philosophy major who wins Public Speaking every single year and has never explained his method to anyone.
We compete at Regionals, State, and Nationals. We run a financial literacy night at the Leon County Public Library that is, without qualification, the best thing we do. We also host the Spring Formal, which is the only thing anybody ever asks us about.
Both facts are true at once. We have made peace with it.

Excellence
Forty-one medals since 2019
We are the only chapter in Region 4 with a dedicated Excel room. It is a converted closet. It has a whiteboard, a space heater, and a waiting list.
Service
1,900 hours last year
Highway cleanup on Pensacola Street, a fall food drive, and financial literacy night at the public library. We teach compound interest to seventh graders. They get it immediately. It is humbling.
Brotherhood
And the couch
Two hundred and fourteen guys who will proofread your cover letter at 1:00 AM, drive to Orlando at 5:00 AM, and never let you forget either one.

Chapter Adviser
Dr. Eleanor Whitfield-Brooks
Teaches Managerial Accounting in the College of Business and has advised this chapter for nineteen years. She has never once raised her voice at a brother, and she has never once needed to. She reviews the formal budget line by line, every year, out loud.
If you have a question about membership, dues, eligibility, or whether something is a good idea, she is the right first call. Particularly that last one.

Standards of conduct
House rules
Ratified by the chapter, posted in the front hall, enforced with unnerving consistency.
- Meetings begin at 7:00 PM. Not 7:05. The Parliamentarian logs arrivals and he does not round down.
- Business casual on meeting nights. A blazer worn over a graphic tee is a negotiation, not an outfit.
- The chapter card is for chapter expenses. Wings are not a chapter expense. This was litigated in open meeting. Wings lost 41–9.
- If you sign up for a competitive event, you compete in the competitive event. Nationals is always held in a nice city. That is a coincidence. It is not a plan.
- Anyone may use the Excel room. Anyone already in the Excel room may ask you to leave the Excel room. There is no appeal.
- No one enters the Spring Formal alone. See Article VII, and see the sixteen people who tried.
- The fridge is a shared cost center. Label your items. Unlabeled items become chapter property after 24 hours and are distributed at the Treasurer's discretion.
- Alumni are welcome at every chapter event. One exception, and he knows who he is.
- The couch stays. The couch has seen things. The couch is not up for discussion.
- Represent the chapter, the University, and the letters like your mother is in the room — because at Nationals she frequently, demonstrably is.

Rush events run the first two weeks of every semester, and you can sit in on a chapter meeting any Wednesday. Bring questions. Bring a résumé if you want it destroyed constructively.
